What LAZY days!! Wonderful. Chickens went free range today and did some damage on the grasshoppers. They are very friendly and tend to hang out where we are, so we will have to spend some quality time in the veggie garden for a while. Laika and Sassy were surprisingly good with them. Think we will be one big happy family.
Today we named the chickens. We all had opinions...
- 'Hewey, Dewey, and Lewey' ~ Kaia. (never mind that there are 4 of them)
- Couldn't have cared less ~ Theo
- 'Pray, Pray, Pray, and Pray'. ~ Pray
- 'Curry, Pot Pie, Soup, and Scrambled'. ~ Carl and Amy
- 'Seriously guys!!' ~ PJ
So we compromised and now we introduce...
drum roll please...
Sauli
Kusali means 'to pray' in Swahili. We named the rooster after Pray.
Legs
Hard to see in the photo but she has really long legs. And she has a huge feathered butt. She and Sauli peck at each other a bit, but just a little bit.
Hewey
No outstanding features, she is a pretty run of the mill hen.
Mama
Moses thinks she is ready to lay eggs (apparently you can tell by listening to her bauk). She spent a lot of the day sitting in the shade so she did look like she might lay. And even last night Kaia noticed and mentioned she thought an egg was on its way. We'll see. Moses made her a nest today.
So now here is your challenge... can you name the chickens from left to right in the picture at the top of the page??
